The Week Ahead: Boys High School Lacrosse
In case you missed the big news of the day in the lacrosse world, the Big Ten Conference announced it was adding both mens and womens lacrosse as the 27th and 28th official sports beginning in 2015. As part of the announcement, Johns Hopkins was made an affiliate Big Ten member for mens lacrosse. The Blue Jays become the first such member of the conference in any sport which is a pretty big statement. The Big Ten Lacrosse Conference will feature Maryland, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and Rutgers in both mens and womens competition. Hopkins will be also be participating on the mens side, while Northwestern will do the same on the womens side. "We are excited to announce the launch of Big Ten men's and women's lacrosse and the addition of Johns Hopkins as a sport affiliate member," said Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany in a press release. "Johns Hopkins is an outstanding institution with a legacy of success in men's lacrosse that is simply unmatched in intercollegiate athletics. Lacrosse is an emerging sport among our current schools and is a long-held passion among our East Coast institutions. With the addition of Maryland and Rutgers in all sports and Johns Hopkins for men's lacrosse, we will have the requisite number of institutions to make men's and women's lacrosse official conference sports, building upon our tradition of broad-based sports competition. We look forward to the start of the first Big Ten men's and women's lacrosse seasons in 2015." It is far too early to properly evaluate what the move means for the game itself, but here are a few quick thoughts. ...

Boys High School Weekend Recap: April 8
It was another solid weekend in the boys high school landscape, which featured a few teams recording statement wins. No. 1 Boys Latin (MD) traveled to three-time defending PIAA State Champion Conestoga (PA) and took down the Pioneers by an eye-opening final score of 18-3. After spending the first three minutes of the contest on defense, the Lakers went on an offensive tear, scoring seven goals to end the first and eight in the second for a commanding 15-0 halftime lead. In our Stat of the Week last Tuesday, we noted Delbarton (NJ) was just 2-6 against St. Antonys (NY) since 2005, with the Green Wave giving up at least eight goals in each of the six losses, but fewer than eight in both wins (2006 and 2007). Recent history suggested holding the Friars under eight would bode well and it did indeed. Delbarton took down St. Anthonys, 7-3 on the road. Impressive early win for the Green Wave. ...
