Personal Statement
For as long as I can recollect, I have been involved in soccer. I pride myself at being my best in all areas in my life and soccer is no exception. So, imagine as a 15-year-old being told 3 days into tryouts, “Sorry, you are going to be cut, but since you are a bigger girl, you need to be on your feet more.” That one sentence, from an adult to a teen, is ridiculously inappropriate. Not to mention, I was the only player of color trying out. To single me out in the middle of tryouts; to already have it determined to cut me because of my size and not my performance, is absurd! This obstacle that I faced is one that taught me strength and forced me to grow to make decisions for the betterment of my future. I have learned that I can combat the negatives of this world by empowering myself.
