ConestogaSome news and notes in advance of tonight’s big matchup as Boys’ Latin travels to Conestoga (photo credit: Conestoga Lacrosse. See full galleries here).

The teams are familiar with each other.

The Lakers and Pioneers have met in each of the past two seasons. Both games were close – decided by a total of three goals.

Last season, the Pioneers earned a 7-6 victory in overtime, while in 2011 the margin was only two – an 11-9 final.

Both teams enter the game on a winning streak.

Boys’ Latin, ranked number one in the country in the latest Nike/US Lacrosse National High School poll, enters the game with eight consecutive victories for a perfect 8-0 record this season. Their already-impressive resume includes wins over Gonzaga (D.C.), the Hill Academy (Ont., Canada) and Culver Prep (IN).

Meanwhile, after two quick setbacks out of the gate, Conestoga has won two consecutive games and evened their record at 2-2. The Pioneers have scored a combined 29 goals in their past two wins to get back on track.

Keep an Eye On: The defenses.

Both teams have been able to score this season.

Boys’ Latin enters the game having scored at least 11 goals in each of their eight victories this season.

Meanwhile, Conestoga has scored a combined 29 goals in their past two contests, both wins.

Whichever defense is able to step up should have the edge in tonight’s game.
