Day Marked by Excellent School Representation, Exciting Play

D3 Showcase StillOn Monday, January 21, roughly 160 boys lacrosse players took part in the inaugural D3 Showcase presented by SportsRecruits.com. Held at the Indoor Sports Pavilion in Randolph, New Jersey, the event put players on display for coaches from some of the best Division III programs in the country.

The showcase was created with a focus on providing high school players the opportunity to be seen by academic-oriented institutions that compete at the Division III level. Based on the recruiting cycle, this year’s event featured players that will graduate high school in 2014.

The day began early, with registration commencing at 7AM. Participants were split into 10 teams, with each squad being led by a DIII coach, providing players direct opportunities to interact with the represented schools.

After the registration period concluded, the attendees and their families were encouraged to attend a recruiting seminar, run by SportsRecruits.com. With five years of experience and over 4,000 members, the team was able to impart knowledge about the recruiting process and what steps to take in order to play in college.

The presenters, SportsRecruits.com co-founders Chris Meade and Matt Wheeler, both played collegiately at Wesleyan University, which allowed them to speak first-hand about the DIII experience – not only from the lacrosse perspective, but also from the academic and cultural perspectives as well.

From there, it was all lacrosse for the rest of the day. Games were played from 9AM until 4PM, utilizing the two full-sized turf fields at the state-of-the-art complex, and the teams competed hard throughout the day.

Each game featured players giving their all, knowing the eyes of some of the best DIII programs in the country – from Salisbury to Gettysburg to Western New England – were there to watch them compete.

With positive feedback from participants and coaches, this event should become a staple on the mid-January calendar. Next year’s event already has a date – Monday, January 20th, 2014 at Indoor Sports Pavilion – with applications for the class of 2015 being accepted.
