Both Smithtown West and Ward Melville enter the game with spotless records. The Bulls are 7-0, recording impressive wins over Syosset (NY) and Farmingdale (NY). Meanwhile, the Patriots are 6-0, with wins over Smithtown East (NY) and Half Hollow Hills West (NY) already on the resume. ...

Boy’s High School Weekend Recap: April 15

The weekend in the boy’s high school landscape was highlighted by some big rivalry games, as teams began their conference slates. In Connecticut, Darien (CT) took down Wilton (CT) 12-10 in an FCIAC showdown Thursday night. Down in Maryland, the MIAA opened conference play. No. 1 Boys’ Latin (MD) continued their winning ways, first taking down McDonogh (MD) last Tuesday, 15-10 before dropping Severn (MD) on Friday, 14-6. The Lakers are now 11-0 on the year. Also from the MIAA last week, Calvert Hall (MD) handed St. Paul’s (MD) their first loss of the season, beating the Crusaders 13-12 on Tuesday. And McDonough rebounded from their loss to Boys’ Latin, taking down Loyola-Blakefield (MD) on Friday, 8-6. ...

Girl’s High School Weekend Recap: April 15

Last week in girl’s high school lacrosse was highlighted by a huge matchup in Washington D.C. St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes (VA) visited Georgetown Visitation (D.C.) Wednesday and took home a huge win, defeating the Tigers 14-9. The Saints also took down Holy Cross (MD) and Christian Brothers (NY) for a perfect 3-0 week. They are now 14-0 on the season. Meanwhile on Long Island, two powers collided on Thursday as Garden City (NY) took down Manhasset (NY), 10-9 in overtime. It was a good week for the Trojans, who also took down Massapequa on the heels of their big comeback win over Darien (CT) in double overtime. ...

After a dominating victory over Cherry Creek (CO) last Saturday – a 15-4 decision for the Quakers that moved them to 4-0 – head coach Deanna Knobloch was kind enough to join us. Coach Knobloch hit on a variety of topics, including her team’s play, their defensive principles and how the program – which has won 13 consecutive State Titles – has maintained such an extraordinary level of success.
